Himself lacking the required techinical knowledge to make the decision, Bormann was to delegate this task to Dr. Todt, who after carrying out the necessary surveys decided on the second alternative, which passed through the following points on the mountain - Rabenwand, Terzangerl, Schützenköpfl, Südwand and Sappenkreuz (see map below). This route had one switchback loop (located at Schützenköpfl) and crossed the north-west side of the mountain twice, as opposed to the first proposition which had five loops covering a slightly shorter distance.
